National Water and Sewer Infrastructure Expansion Project (NWASIEP) – Uganda

Administrative Overview

The Government of Uganda, through its commitment to improving access to clean water and efficient sanitation infrastructure, is engaging private sector contractors to supply, construct, and maintain water and sewer lines across selected regions. This public-private partnership aims to accelerate infrastructure development, especially in underserved urban and peri-urban areas. The selected private contractor will be responsible for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of water and sewerage systems, ensuring compliance with national and international engineering and environmental standards.

This initiative falls under Uganda’s broader National Development Plan and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation for all. The government, through relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Water and Environment and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), will oversee regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and overall project coordination.

Objectives

  1. Expand Access: To increase access to clean and safe water supply and reliable sewerage systems in targeted communities.

  2. Improve Infrastructure: To modernize and expand Uganda’s water and sewer infrastructure using private sector efficiency and innovation.

  3. Promote Public Health: To reduce waterborne diseases and improve sanitation standards through proper waste disposal systems.

  4. Ensure Sustainability: To establish systems that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable for long-term operation and maintenance.

  5. Create Employment: To generate employment opportunities during project implementation and post-construction phases.

To successfully implement the design, installation, and commissioning of high-quality water supply and sewer lines in accordance with the Government of Uganda’s development priorities—thereby contributing to improved health, environmental sustainability, and economic growth across the nation.
