Project AgriTrak

Empowering Large-Scale Farmers through Mechanization

Administrative Overview

The Government of Uganda, through NEPB, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), is committed to modernizing agriculture as a critical pillar of economic development, job creation, and food security. In line with this vision, the government has partnered with a private contractor to supply agricultural tractors and essential mechanization equipment for large-scale farmers across the country.

This initiative supports Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP III) and Vision 2040, aiming to transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture. The contractor will be responsible for the supply, delivery, basic training, and after-sales service of high-performance tractors designed for Ugandan agricultural conditions. Distribution will be prioritized for farmers with large farms who have demonstrated capacity to engage in high-yield, market-oriented agriculture.

The project emphasizes sustainability, value chain efficiency, and mechanization as tools to enhance productivity, reduce labor costs, and improve national food self-sufficiency.

Objectives

  1. Promote Mechanization: To increase the use of modern agricultural machinery among large-scale farmers to improve productivity and efficiency.
  2. Boost Agricultural Output: To enhance the yield and profitability of commercial farms by reducing reliance on manual labor.
  3. Modernize Agriculture: To support the transition from traditional to modern, mechanized, and market-driven farming practices.
  4. Enhance Rural Development: To empower rural communities through improved access to mechanized tools that increase income and employment opportunities.
  5. Strengthen Value Chains: To facilitate timely land preparation and harvesting, leading to improved quality and market competitiveness of agricultural products.

Mission

To deliver high-quality, reliable agricultural tractors and mechanization services that empower Ugandan farmers with large farms to increase their productivity, income, and contribution to national food security and agricultural transformation.

Vision

To be a key partner in Uganda’s agricultural modernization journey by supporting the government’s efforts to mechanize farming and build a competitive, sustainable, and inclusive agricultural sector.

Goal

To successfully supply and distribute agricultural tractors to large-scale farmers in Uganda through a public-private partnership model, thereby promoting mechanized agriculture, enhancing food production, and supporting rural economic growth
